miaaaow

hey! we're here! we arrived yesterday, about 3 here, but 8ish in the uk i think. i don't really know where to start so i'm going to just try to remember everything we've done!

so the flight was fine in the end. continental did not destroy us. their pilot had maybe the best uniform in the world and definately the best voice. he sounded like barry white, which i think reassured tim in some way because i still have full use of my fingers - usually they are squeezed out of shape with the taking off/landing trauma. but nope, there was frasier and battleships and iron man and blue blankets, and we even had a vegan lunch. prrrretty good.

james and wayne - we flew over the golf course... it's blooming huuuuuge!

and then immigration. not so scary. no cavity searches. winner. oh, and turns out i have a smiley face in my fingerprint. yep, i am special.

and so steve picked us up from the airport, he's tim's supervisor and is putting us up for the next couple of weeks til we find a place to live. we drove about half an hour from the airport down route 77 (i think). it's all so green - the road goes straight through a national park... i can't remember what it was called. so then we came back to his house, which is just gorgeous, in a really nice neighbourhood, where all of the houses are made of wood and are super big with really long gardens and no fences or anything between gardens... i'm giving you lots of useless details to try to build a picture but maybe i should just... take a picture. anyway. so. we met his wife, claudia, who is an ex-academic turned stay-home-mom and jewellery designer, and their kids, sophie and sarah who are 7 and 10 and so much fun. as i'm typing tim is sitting in the summer house with them playing monopoly. he is losing. but that's my fault because he's taken over from me. oh, and we met their cat, called kitty, who is burmese/siamese cross and has been following us around all day chattering. she's ace. and has the smallest little face you've ever seen. yum.

so we're staying in the basement here, which is really not even nearly as bad as it sounds - it's the entire bottom floor of the house, all carpetted and cosy and it has a bar (!) and pool table and a foozeball table (i know, i know, but we're in america. you can't call it table football.) in it and a verrry cosy bed and so we're super comfy.

yep, and then we went for dinner and to collect some supplies. all of the shops and resturants and things are in 'strip malls' which look to me kind of like st james retail park, but i guess we'll get used to that! i think downtown is a bit more high-streety, but we've only driven through so far... oh, and i got my first doggy bag! i ordered a stir fry which came with a salad and seriously, the salad on its own was as big as a meal you would have at home. i had some of my leftovers for lunch today and there's still another meal left over. we are going to have to be very careful not to get fa-a-at!

so we came back to the house after that and there was a meteor shower! it's really pretty hot here at the moment, and we all sat out in the garden with a fire and some tea watching the sky, which is just so clear out here because there's pretty much no light pollution, and i saw my first shooting star! it was soooo bright. and then saw two more after that. did a lot of wishing. you people owe us many visits now.

and then, coming up for 24 hours of awakeness, we went to bed and slept and slept and slept.
so, we really like it so far. lots. missing everyone already.

i was going to write messages to everyone but they were all full of questions, and you know what your questions are so email me and give me the answers! i hope everyone's ok... x

ah! and the address for anyone that wants to send us anything pretty is 4461 ridge crest drive, akron, ohio 44321. google earth it!

also. tim saw a groundhog. he is very happy about this, and wanted you all to know.

love you xx
